People frequently come and go.
We were little kids joyfully playing monkey bars, foursquare, and hopscotch.
And alas we went our separate ways; I wish somebody would stay.
But a friendship so fragile would inevitably be botched.
So we ended with your hot pink sticky note: Can you not sit with us at lunch?
People frequently come and go.
After our childhood together, our friendship was top-notch.
But we lost contact after our school closed down — no warning, no hunch.
And alas we went our separate ways; I wish somebody would stay.
Despite new friends in a new town, our time was monitored by a stopwatch.
Though out of your control, you moved away and left like the rest of the bunch.
People frequently come and go.
In middle school, our friendship flourished like a mural, but that too was only a paint swatch.
Next thing we knew, in high school, a worldwide pandemic hit — more like a punch.
And alas we went our separate ways; I wish somebody would stay.
And like an outsider to our own stories, we watch
As beautiful florals fall as leaves that crunch,
People frequently come and go.
And alas we went our separate ways; I wish somebody would stay.
