Silence

Statement: This piece highlights how much the short moments even if there are no words can impact someone. The silent moments are really important because it shows that just by existing you can impact someone, even without knowing it you can too.

The short silences when we were together—the short silences you don’t seem to remember—were the highlight of my day. We would sit on call, minding our business, not speaking a word to each other, but the silence spoke everything I could ever wish for.

Most of the time, in those short silences, I would watch you as you worked, a peaceful look on your face, not knowing how big of an impact you had on me. My nightmares turned into daydreams, wilted flowers bloomed, and the earth started spinning again— and most of all, my heart was left forever engraved with your name. Looking at you made my heart stop and beat at the same time. My thoughts disappeared.

Although miles of distance, oceans apart, I felt you’re presence next to me.

With the slow breathing and occasional smiles, I felt as close as can be. Fell harder than it might’ve seemed.

The silence was short, but the impact was long, like an everlasting spell you cast on my glowing heart. To this day, I still remember those short silences: the silences when I would drown in your presence, the silences like a drug, stopping all my worries.
