my dad overwaters his plants

they turn mushy and brown after a while

he’s forgetful,

my mom says

but I don’t think that’s true

I think he doesn’t know when to stop giving.

he puts all of his love into those plants

into caring tenderly for them

watching them intently,

even overbearing at times

caring for them like his children

I hope I don’t turn mushy and brown too
